Know Your Legal Rights

What can management say about my decision to join AFA?

Management can’t say much about your decision to join AFA. Your decision is a personal one, and it’s also legally protected.

Management cannot...

■ Tell employees that they will be fired or punished if they engage in union activity.

■  Layoff or discharge any employee for engaging in union activity.

■  Bar employees from discussing AFA or recruiting members during non-work time.

■  Ask employees about confidential union matters (e.g., whether you have signed an authorization card).

■  Ask employees about whether they support union representation or a particular union.

■  Ask employees how they intend to vote in a union election.

■  Threaten employees or coerce them in an attempt to influence their vote.

■  Tell employees that existing benefits will be discontinued if the workplace is unionized.

■  Threaten that unionization will take away current job-related benefits and privileges.

■  Promise or give employees promotions, raises or other benefits for voting against a union.

■  Prevent you from casting your ballot.

If you’ve encountered any of these actions or statements from airline management, contact the AFA Legal Department at 800/424-2401. AFA will stand up for your legal right to make a decision free from fear and intimidation by your boss.
